Artist's
Statement 1)
The Image Transfer process allows me to soften the image by applying
it to wet watercolor paper (140 lb., hot press 100% cotton rag). I can
further alter the image by applying pigment to the surface using graphite,
pastel, watercolor, and oil paint, individually or in combination. |
|
2) The Emulsion Transfer process is very similar in technique, but uses a completely processed and dried photograph. The image layer is separated from the fiber base and can be stretched, folded, torn, and layered, as it is placed onto fine art paper. Pigments may be applied to the surface once it has cured. |

3) The Manipulated Photographic Illustrations are enlargements of my artistically-enhanced SX-70 photographs. The image emulsion is embellished by hand in the SX-70 photo before it is completely hardened. This technique allows me to change the lines of objects and the tones of the image. I also work directly on the enlargements, applying pigment to the surface to create unique finished pieces. I continue my exploration of alternative photographic techniques, experimenting with new methods, and building on what I have accomplished. |
