Barbizon painter. Well known for atmospheric and tonalist works. Influenced by Eugene Boudin. Studied: National Academy of Design and in Paris. Worked with Thomas Eakins when he returned from Paris, in 1888. Member: Lotos Club, Salmagundi Club, and the National Academy of Design. Exhibited: 1880s-1900s In the collection of: Art Institute of Chicago; Boston Museum; St Louis Art Museum; National Gallery; and Metropolitan Museum. |
