Born January 17, 1822 in Deerfield, MA. Studied in the Albany studio of Sculptor Henry Kirke Brown, Boston, New York City, London and throughout Europe. 1847, entered National Academy and lived in New York City. Worked in Boston, 1842-47, in NYC, 1847-59, and at his family farm in Deerfield, 1860-75. Successful in Boston. Known for portraits and mystical landscapes.
 
Exhibited: American Art-Union; Boston Atheneum; National Academy of Design.
