Born and raised in New York City. Lived in Greenwhich Village. Married poet Lloyd Frankenberg. 1935, Alfred Barr, Director of the Museum of Modern Art, bought one of her paintings and this launched her career. Worked on WPA Federal Art Project. Traveled in Europe. Known for semi-abstracts.

Exhibited: New York, Pierre Matisse Gallery, 1956; Ottawa, the National Gallery of Canada, 1950.

Traveling Exhibition: Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; Art Gallery of Toronto, Ontario, Stratford Arena; Manitoba, The Winipeg Art Gallery, 1957; Washington, DC., The Philips Collection, 1966; Indiana, Art Gallery, University of Notre Dame, 1966.
