Born in Tiverton Four Corners, Rhode Island. Settled
in Pasadena. Self-taught. Began painting in Barbizon style. Became known
for Symbolist paintings of figures in shadowy landscapes. Influenced by
classic disciplines and High Renaissance expression, which was reflected
in series of paintings depicting pagan ritual processions.
Exhibited: NY Etching C., 1886; PAFA; Museum of Boston,
Cincinnati; and St. Louis.
